Moulding Your Future
From injection moulding to compression moulding to automatic moulding, Unasco can produce large or small parts in a wide range of quantities.
Moulding technology, particularly injection moulding, is not normally associated with processors of fluoropolymers. This demonstrates the diversity of Unasco and the wide range of skills in dealing with multiple materials and technologies to provide the market with the most appropriate choices. Unasco have invested heavily in moulding and processing equipment to ensure that the customer has the widest choice in their applications. This investment is not just in equipment but in the people to run the equipment and the engineers to support the customers. Unasco take an holistic approach to the engineering plastics market and their customers see the benefits of this approach.
Unasco have a range of injection moulding equipment to process many different types of plastics materials. The expertise lies in doing the difficult things that others cannot. Unasco has the capability to process materials from Polypropylene (PP), Nylon (PA) as well as Polybutylene Terephthalate (PBT) and Polyetheretherketone (PEEK). This is very rare in the Australian market and shows the commitment that Unasco has in providing the market with the widest available choices in material selection.
Unasco specialise in the moulding of difficult components in difficult materials. Our engineers can assist you in the correct selection of materials and processing techniques.
Fluoropolymers are normally processed using compression moulding or extrusion techniques. By its nature these processes are time consuming and require large scale equipment. But what about small components required in mass production from fluoropolymers? Well this is where automatic moulding is used. Here a small component is pressed into a preform at high speed and the resulting components are batch sintered to produce the finished components. Production can include coloured pigments and quite complex shapes. The benefits of this process include dimensional stability, close manufacturing tolerances and rapid cost effective production.
Typical applications for this process include small flat spacer components, insect strips and washers or clips. These parts retain all of the features of fluoropolymers including chemical and temperature resistance as well as excellent electrical properties.
Compression moulding of billets and flat sheets of fluoropolymers is a core part of Unasco’s business. We have the capability to mould a wide range of materials in a wide range of billet sizes. Unasco also process some high performance thermoplastic materials using the compression moulding technique. All materials are processed in the Unasco plant and we also have an extensive curing oven facility to enable sintering of the billets and pre-forms. Materials processed by Unasco include:
– Virgin Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)
– Glass filled PTFE
– Mineral filled PTFE
– Carbon and Graphite filled PTFE
– Bronze filled PTFE
– Polyetheretherketone (PEEK)
– Tuffclad Moly
